Kym Douglas on Winning the Battle over Your Teen's Wardrobe

The 700 Club

CBN.comON MODESTY
Kym says that it is the consumer’s responsibility when it comes to fashion to say “I don’t want to wear this.” Many fashions today are inappropriate and quite frankly Kym says, “they don’t look that great on most people.” Hopefully, the trend to show skin is on the way out. Kym says more modest fashions are making a comeback. For example, for a pre-teen, a mini-skirt and “belly” shirt (a shirt that shows the mid-section) are not appropriate. However, young girls can look hip, be cool and make a statement as a fashion leader but they can do it wholesomely. In the same mini-skirt, Kym says to pair it with cream or black textured tights, add low slung slouch boots with a small heel. Add a longer t-shirt underneath the shorter belly shirt and top with a newsboy cap.

A recent survey conducted by a clothing manufacturer found that 82 percent of parents said that their children are dressing inappropriately. Nearly as many (81 percent) said they allowed their children to pick their clothes.

Kym will be demonstrating appropriate fashions using 3 models on the set. Clothing and accessories courtesy of Marshall’s.

BORN FOR TV
Kym was raised in a Christian home and when she was 5, she gave her heart to the Lord. By the time she was 12, Kym knew she wanted to be a reporter. The day she turned 16, Kym borrowed her parents car, drove to the local TV station in Detroit, Michigan and asked for a job. Her career began as a Tour Guide for the local station! After graduating from Oral Roberts University, she was hired by a news station to anchor the 6 and 11 o’clock evening news. But anchoring wasn’t her only job. Kym was also an occasional cameraman, field reporter, and sports and weather anchor. One day, the News Director asked her to do an interview with an actor. Kym requested a political story instead but the interview was set. The man was Jerry Douglas, star of The Young and the Restless.” A year later, they were married.

Once in Los Angeles, Kym began working at E! Entertainment Television doing celebrity reporting and hosting. She was spotted by former Good Morning America producer, Woody Frasier, who was putting together a 2 hour live daily show on the Family Channel called Home and Family. She joined Cristina Ferrare and Chuck Woolery as the entertainment and fashion co-host and continued her work on “E!.” She has also reported on Fox’s Good Day LA, and co-hosted a nationally syndicated radio entertainment show called Your Weekend.

On The Donny and Marie Show, Kym began a new phase in her career. For two years, she was their Lifestyle Reporter. She can currently be seen on USA Network’s Before and Afternoon’s, Disney’s Soap Talk, and Fox’s Good Day Live. Recently the ladies at The View, hired her as their own fashion commentator.

Kym’s books, Red Carpet Beauty Secrets, followed by Red Carpet Diet Secrets will be coming out next year.
