Robert Stearns: Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem

CBN.com The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is "a call to sustained fervent, informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of God for Jerusalem and all her people" as Psalm 122:6-8 says. Although the organized prayer for peace of Jerusalem has been established for a few years, an annual day of prayer on the first Sunday of October was designated to coincide with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Last year, 500 global Christian ministries representing 50 countries came together for this effort and 53,000 churches participated. This year 100,000 churches from 100 countries are expected to participate. Many prayer events to recognize the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem will be going on simultaneously on Sunday, October 2, 2005 in many countries all over the globe, especially in Korea and El Salvador. Robert will be attending a special event near Frankfurt, Germany. The ambassador of Israel and several members of the German Parliament will be there.

This has been the largest coalition in church history. Many prominent Christian leaders are a part of the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem effort. Dr. Jack Hayford, president of the Four Square denomination, is the other co-chairman along with Robert. Some other key members are Dr. Pat Robertson, Kay Arthur, Michael W. Smith, and Dick Eastman. This is just the beginning of letting people see the origin of Jewish roots in the Christian faith and see the importance of Israel today. The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem wants people to take local responsibility - to get involved by going on the website (www.daytopray.com), registering either as an individual or a church, and getting a prayer packet (It is updated from last year's packet. This includes a booklet by Dr. Jack Hayford, a new teaching DVD, and the book YOUR PEOPLE SHALL BE MY PEOPLE by Don Finto). The local church needs to take part.

In Israel, this day of prayer is getting respect and recognition from the Jewish community. The Jerusalem Post wrote a big article about it. Key Jewish leaders are going to participate in it – members of the Knesset and the President of Israel went to the 2004 event, with endorsements from Chief Rabbi and Benjamin Netanyahu. Also, Dr. Pat Robertson was the keynote speaker at the Day of Prayer in Jerusalem on Oct. 3, 2004.

We have to discern the season we are in. Intimacy with God in Jesus is the message, and that intimacy is going to be recaptured. Robert grew up in the AOG church in Buffalo and accepted the Lord as a child in Sunday School. He lived in Jerusalem for one year in the early 1990s. Since that time Robert has met most Israeli leaders and continues to minister in Israel, having been a worship leader at the Feast of Tabernacles. In 1992, he says the Lord spoke to him that He would send revival to major Northeast cities – New York, Boston, Philadelphia, etc. – and that because of the major influence of those cities, many people would be affected. New York has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, and is the major center for media, finance, etc. “The Lord wants to see a breakthrough in this nation,” Robert says.
