Deluge: An Unshakable Band

CBN.comDeluge’s sophomore album, Unshakable, really allows listeners to see the band’s heart through their music.  It gives a glimpse into everyday-life struggles of believers who share a selfless passion for Christ.  Frontman Jonathan Stockstill says, “Unshakable is not just the title of our new album, it is the message of the life we have been living as a family and a church.”

The church and the Stockstill family have had a trying last couple of years, and many of the songs on the album are born from a need for God and their hope and trust in Him.  Some of the events in the last two years include the birth of Jonathan’s first child (he and his wife were originally told they would miscarry), his brother Joel’s lifelong battle with kidney disease, and the loss of Jonathan’s sister-in-law to cancer.

The title song comes from the revelation that nothing can separate us from the love of God.  Our faith in God should not waiver even when we walk through trials and tribulations.  After a church service one evening during the time of Amy’s illness, the Lord gave Jonathan a word from the book of Daniel.  It was about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego standing before King Nebuchadnezzar as he sentenced them to death by fire for not bowing down to his statue.  They told the king that God would deliver them from the fire.  Even if He did not, they would still not bow down.  These three men were content with God’s will for their lives no matter what the outcome was.  Jonathan told the congregation that they desired for his sister-in-law to be healed, but even though God didn’t heal her, they would still not “bow their knees.”

The song “Sing of the Blood" is about an older gentleman at Bethany World Prayer Center who has been a source of inspiration and encouragement to Jonathan over the years.  After one of the services, he approached Jonathan and began to talk to him about the worship. They talked about the power that can be found in the blood of Jesus and how there aren't many songs being sung in churches today about the blood of Jesus. As Jonathan thought about their conversation, he agreed that the blood of Jesus is the most powerful thing in the life of Christians. It is through the shed blood of Jesus and His death on the Cross that inspire our worship.

Deluge is not your typical worship band.  Born out of intense worship conferences at their home church of Bethany World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge, LA, Deluge's sound represents one of America’s most dynamic youth ministries, 220 Ministry, which has over 7,000 students.  New songs arose from these times of corporate prayer and worship.

Their focus and aim is to point worshipers to the one true God through Jesus Christ, and to see His glory displayed.   Deluge’s solid musicianship, inventive music has stayed away from clichés that have made their music stand out.  Both fans and critics love their hard-to-peg, eclectic, cutting edge musical style, a gumbo of the music styles found in their home state.
