Gunnar Peterson: Year-Round Fitness

By The 700 Club

CBN.comFITNESS ALL YEAR ROUND
Taking care of yourself during the holidays – or any time of year - means watching what you put into your body.  Gunnar says don't eat anything you can pick up with your fingers or toothpicks (finger foods) and don't eat standing up.  In other words, be aware of how much food you take in.  A lot of times when you eat food you can grab easily, you are not keeping count of how many calories you are taking in or what you are eating.  Gunnar says if you ate it last year, don't eat it this year.

As a student at Duke University, Gunnar learned from personal experience that doing a little bit of exercise every day was better than doing a lot on the day his fitness magazine arrived.  He says you have to have a plan and a program in place to ensure that each muscle group gets a workout.  Once that’s in place and you make it a part of your daily routine, and as unthinkable to blow off as brushing your teeth, you will experience steady, maintainable improvements.  How you approach your exercise is often as important as how often you exercise.  You could be a victim of poor exercise habits without realizing it.

It’s not easy staying in shape when you are very busy, Gunnar says.  During your off-hours and weekends, you’re trying to make the most of your time with loved ones, run errands, etc.  So when you finally get a few minutes to yourself, all you want to do is relax – which often means an activity that barely requires a pulse!  Gunnar knows what a busy lifestyle is all about because everyone he works with deals with this very same issue.  He deals with the same issue.  But lack of time is only one piece of a bigger problem.

MORE ABOUT GUNNAR
Gunnar Peterson is a Beverly Hills-based personal trainer whose clients include celebrities, such as Sylvester Stallone, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, and Matthew McConaughey, Debra Messing, Penelope Cruz, rock guitarist Slash, professional athletes, like Bruce Jenner, and everyday people. Gunnar works with each client on an individual basis, focusing on achieving long-term results through challenging and constantly varied workouts. He is widely recognized for his expertise in functional training and his commitment to developing and implementing innovative fitness techniques. With more than 17 years in the fitness industry, Gunnar's dynamic approach, boundless energy and humor only add to the effectiveness of the experience his clients enjoy.

Gunnar emphasizes strength training modalities that can be transferred from the gym to daily life, from training camp to championship. He has worked with athletes from the NBA, NHL, NFL, USTA, professional boxing and various NCAA sports. Many film and television celebrities have also sought Gunnar's guidance in preparing for roles and have stayed on to become devoted clients, making him a part of their regular fitness regimen.

Gunnar has been into health and fitness all his life.  As a young child, Gunnar was overweight.  His mother even put him in Weight Watchers when he was ten.  It was a struggle to keep a steady weight.  In college, he focused more on fitness and took personal health more seriously.  It wasn't until he graduated from college that he finally had a more consistent personal program and kept his healthy lifestyle more permanent.  He moved to L.A. and continued to pursue health and fitness.  He vigorously worked out and took whatever health classes he could.  He started seeing the differences between what would work and what didn't and started coming up with his own techniques.  He even started being a personal trainer.  From that, his expertise and client list grew.  Gunnar continues his search to find the most effective techniques that really work.
