Liz Vaccariello: The Flat Belly Diet for Men

CBN.com It’s not just women who struggle to keep their bellies flat. Men and women gain weight in different places, and men are actually more prone to packing on the pounds around the waist.  Around 70 percent of American men are overweight or obese, and a lot of this excess flab is found on or around the belly.

After the Flat Belly Diet! came out, Liz Vaccariello heard from men who were also worried about their expanding waistlines, especially when they heard that belly fat isn’t just a vanity issue – it’s a serious health concern.  Many of them saw a woman in their life lose weight on the original plan, and some even tried it out themselves – with great success! Anthony Henry lost 27 pounds in just one month.

Belly fat is an indicator of a number of serious health conditions. There are actually two types of “belly fat” that can accumulate around the waist – subcutaneous and visceral.

Subcutaneous fat, simply put, is the fat you can see – the stuff you can actually grab around your midsection. The second type of fat is more harmful. Visceral fat is found deep within the torso, and too much of this kind of fat can lead to big trouble. Because of its proximity to your vital organs, excess visceral fat can raise the risk of: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s.  It’s possible to be “skinny fat,” which Liz says means to be relatively thin and still have too much visceral fat to be considered healthy.

MUFAs AND THE PLAN FOR MEN
The cornerstone of the FBD plan is the emphasis on eating a MUFA at every meal. A MUFA is short for monounsaturated fatty acid, which is a type of heart-healthy, disease-fighting unsaturated fat found in foods like almonds, walnuts, peanut butter, olive oil, and avocado.  New research reveals that MUFAs make weight loss easier AND specifically target both kinds of belly fat. MUFAs fall into five categories: Oils, Olives, Nuts and Seeds, Avocados, and Dark Chocolate. In addition to busting belly fat, men can reduce the risk for metabolic syndrome, which doubles the chances of having a stroke or dying from heart disease, ward off type 2 diabetes, maintain brain health, and lower the risk of prostate cancer.

Every day for 28 days men will enjoy three, 400-calorie meals and two 400-calorie power snacks.  Each meal and snack has the right amount of MUFAs to help flatten abs and is full of fiber and protein so guys won’t feel hungry, grouchy, or tired during the plan.  There are three main differences between the FBD and the FBD for men.
