Marina grew up in a home where her mom cooked dinner every night and says she grew up with Yummy Mummy role models all of her life, which is a British term for an attractive, stylish mother. Marina personally defines Yummy Mummy as a dedicated mom who embodies a healthy lifestyle with grace and style. She values fitness and health and knows how to turn a simple meal into a special one with little effort. When Marina’s daughter was born, she started a Yummy Mummy blog. Even though Marina’s recipes look elegant, she keeps them simple and uses as few ingredients as possible. Living in Santa Barbara, Marina patronizes the local farmers markets for fresh vegetables and fruits. “I try to make a healthy dinner every night,” says Marina. A former schoolteacher, Marina knows it can take a child 15 times to see a new food before tasting it. She urges parents not to hide pureed vegetables in their meals. “Celebrate them,” says Marina. “So that our kids will grow up with a palate and an attitude that appreciate foods in their natural form rather than in the overprocessed form many have grown accustomed to.”
Marina’s cookbook, The Yummy Mummy Kitchen, has 100 recipes she created using fresh seasonal ingredients including homemade desserts. Many of the recipes she grew up eating and now make for her family with some small changes that allow even more vegetables at dinner.
