Sensere: The Sound of Future Worship

By The 700 Club

CBN.comTHE CALL
In 2003, the desire to form this group was placed in the heart of James E. Wright III.  He set about bringing together a group of 12 great singers and players from South Florida.  James was a musician and worshipper in churches pastored separately by his parents when the Lord gave him a vision to bring vibrant music back into the forefront of the church service.  This would make the worship experience even more relatable and meaningful.   He says, as with all visions and calls, there were some ups and downs.  Though he began with 12 members there was some shifting within the group over the years – members coming and going.  “By 2009 the group got down to just three people – one band member, a singer, and myself,” James says.  James was sensing the Lord say that there would be a shifting in the group.  He committed it all to God and said, “God, do it.  Do what You need to do in us.”  After this challenging time it was like “people just dropped into the picture.”  Just the right people came at just the right time.

THE VISION
The group was greatly helped by music veteran Eddie Pugh partnering with them in 2008 and sharing the vision.

Eddie had worked with Warner Bros, Casablanca Records & Film Work, and Columbia Records.  James said Eddie joining them was divine intervention.  James is multi-talented – writes, arranges, produces, plays lead guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, sings background vocals, etc.  In 2009 Sensere’s new birth came through the recruiting of Brian Williams, Terrell Terry (vocals), and musicians Wildemayer Marcelin, Terrance McClain, Darrell Efford, Jermaine Dean, Robert Crumedy, and Clinton Cornish who joined original members Dwayne Charlton (vocals) and Timothy Wimberly (bass).  “Each of these guys are accomplished vocalists and musicians and could be pursuing other careers,” James says, “But all of them had the same vision as I to trust God totally and put everything on the line regarding our mission.  We want to touch as many lives and spirits as possible.  To minister to people’s minds and hearts.  Everyone believes in what we are doing and has a heart for Jesus.  This is not about fame.  It’s about hope and directing light to His people that He’s entrusting to us to deliver through song.”   James says at one venue, after listening to them, a man came up to say that he had given up on church.  But after listening to them he wanted to get right with God and was going back.

James says the most important part of the vision the Lord gave was “to go outside the walls of the church and bring them into the church.”  To that end they have traveled and played in various and different venues across the country – playing in churches, public places, festivals, Clubs, etc.  And they play the same music in the Clubs as they do in the church.   They don’t change the lyrics or the music.

“We’re not taking God out of anything,” he says.   When people listen they want to know God.  “They didn’t know you can worship God like that,”  James says.  “God accepts all kinds of music.”  They recently played at South Florida’s prestigious 7th Annual   “Jazz in the Gardens,” one of the biggest festivals in Miami showcasing Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, and Kenny G.  They are the first Gospel artists to ever perform at the festival.  The group’s sound is a step back into the future to a rock-infused soul based Gospel music.  Via MTV their video reaches all the college stations, etc.

Of the all-male group James is married with 4 kids, Timothy is married with 3 kids, & Terrell is happy with his wife.
