Shaun T: Hip Hop Abs and the Insanity Workout

CBN.comMAX INTERVAL TRAINING
Shaun T was raised by his mother and grandparents in New Jersey.  He always had a talent for dancing and choreography.  After much success in the field of theater and television, Beachbody contacted Shaun T to create a dance workout called Hip Hop Abs.  It quickly became the No. 1 video in America.

Hip Hop Abs swept the country and helped many people shed pounds and build strong abs.  In 2008, he saw the need to help kids fight childhood obesity and created Shaun T’s Fit Club (ages 7 and up)  and Get Real With Shaun T (for teens).  In 2008, Shaun T came up with Rockin’ Body, which involved new dance moves and calorie-burning workouts set to popular music.  Then in 2009, he created Insanity, one of the most intense workout videos ever put together.

Insanity does not involve any dance moves  Instead, Shaun T reversed what is known as interval training, which is cardio training with short bursts of intense workouts.  He calls this reversal “max interval training,” which is three minutes of intense cardio workouts with 30 seconds of rest.

The 60-day program calls for workouts six days a week. It is important to stay on top of your nutrition and stay fueled up.  While other workouts rely on loss of pounds and measurements, Shaun T says it’s not necessarily just inches lost.  “It’s your progression,” he says.  Before getting started, Shaun T strongly recommends seeing your doctor, taking the fit test initially and then taking the fit test again after every two weeks of working out.  “The fit test shows you the progression,” says Shaun T.  “If things aren’t working, most of the time, it’s your diet.”

DIGGING DEEP
While Insanity is one of the most difficult workouts available, Shaun T says many overweight people have seen success with his program.  “It’s based on time.  Basically everyone is out to achieve their personal best.  No one has to feel like they have to keep up,” says Shaun T.  “There’s no pressure.  You can take a break, rest, get some water.  It’s hard but you can do it at your own pace.” The important thing is to eat the best fuel for your body and go slow enough to keep your form and to keep from dying.

Shaun T will show us some basic moves from Hip Hop Abs including the Tilt Tuck Tighten, Basic Bounce, and Get Busy. Dancing can be a full-body workout.  He will also show various moves like the 1-2-3 Heisman, Power Squats, Basketball Jump Shot, Stance Jacks and Tricep Ball Push Ups.

Appearing in today's segment is Linda Kuehn, Kristi Watts’s neighbor and a police officer who lost 18 pounds using the Insanity program.
