Actors Stephen Baldwin and Kevin Downes Talk Faith of Our Fathers

CBN.com FAITH OF OUR FATHERS

Fathers’ Day is coming up,  and Faith of Our Fathers  is a great way to celebrate the Godly Fathers. The film begins  with Vietnam War raging in 1969,  as  two young fathers report for duty. A man of great faith and a doubtful cynic. A quarter-century later, their sons, Wayne and John Paul (David A.R. White and Kevin Downes), meet as strangers. Guided by letters handwritten from their fathers from the battlefield, they embark on an unforgettable journey to The Wall—the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Along the way, they discover the devastation of war cannot break the love of a father for his son.

Faith of our Fathers  reunites Stephen Baldwin with the Downes Brothers since Baldwin previously starred in the Downes’ film Six: The Mark Unleashed. It also features  Grammy and Dove Award-winning Christian singer, author and actress Rebecca St. James, Christian actress, Candace Cameron Bure, and Duck Dynasty’s Si Robertson.

The film was created by Pure Flix, the same studio that created God’s Not Dead, and will be released July 1, 2015. Michael Scott, founder and president of Pure Flix said, “Faith of Our Fathers honors all of those who served. Pure Flix is thrilled to partner with Downes Brothers and Samuel Goldwyn as we commemorate this important moment in our nation’s history.”

Stephen: WORLDY LIFE VS. CHRISTIAN LIFE

Stephen has been acting in films since the 1980s.  He comes from a family of four actor brothers (his older brother is Alec Baldwin).  While he was working on the TV show Young Riders (1989-1992), Stephen and his wife, Kennya, needed help around the house with their two daughters.  They hired an older housekeeper from Brazil who was a Christian.  Stephen says that her love for Jesus shined through her and impacted him greatly.  After the TV series ended, Stephen and his family moved to New York where Kennya started attending a Brazilian church.  She became deeply involved in a Bible study and gave her life to the Lord.  Kennya began intensely praying for her husband.  Stephen says he gave his life to the Lord at that time but that his interest in Christianity didn’t become strong until after the terrorist attacks on September 11th.  In March 2002, Stephen was baptized at church.

He realized that there was not a lot of Christian content in the secular marketplace and looked at starting a company that offered quality Christian media to young people.  After attending a festival in Syracuse, New York, put on by the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association, Stephen was inspired.  “I’ve been to MTV and all of that worldly stuff,” he says.  “It’s spiritual death.  It’s meaningless.  All of this is Christian – modern – edgy.” He created Livin It,  a 40- minute documentary that includes extradordinary sports action and compelling face-to-face, street style evangelism.

Over the past several years, he has been involved in the production of several faith-based films, with the most recent being Faith of Our Fathers (Pure Flix 2015).

Kevin: ACTING FOR A PURPOSE
Well known for his role as Shane Fuller in Courageous, Kevin Downes has been acting, producing, directing and writing films for over 20 years.  He majored in theater for his first two years of college, and moved to L.A. when he was 20. Kevin said, “What I started to learn was that I wanted to do things that mattered. I wanted to make decisions that mattered.” After being cast in a faith-based film at age 22, he says he fell in love with the entire production process. “I was really touched by the lives that were being affected by the work that I had done in the film and the film itself. It was from that point that I knew that this is what I wanted to do for a living.” Throught the years, he worked on several projects and learned the film industry. He now produces, directs, and stars in top-notch faith-based films.  “ I just feel really blessed and very fortunate to be able to do what I love,” he said. He and his older brother Bobby Downes founded Downes Brothers Entertainment. Their mission is to produce high quality motion pictures to share strong messages of hope, faith and love that come through a personal relationship with God.
