Minister's Acting Debut in War Room

CBN.comWAR ROOM

Priscilla stars in her first major film role as Elizabeth Jordan in the movie War Room which debuts in theaters on August 28th nationwide. This is the fifth film by Alex and Stephen Kendrick creators of Fireproof, Courageous, Facing the Giants, and Flywheel. The movie explores the transformational role prayer plays in the lives of the Jordan family. In the film, Elizabeth’s marriage has become a war zone with their daughter trapped in the middle. With the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discovers she can start fighting for her family in prayer instead of against them. Priscilla had worked with the Kendrick brothers previously when they asked her to write the Courageous companion, The Resolution for Women. When they asked her to be in War Room, at first Priscilla laughed out loud, but after praying about the opportunity and seeing that it was in line with her and husband, Jerry’s ministry, Going Beyond, she said yes. She says being in the film was a true adventure.

Before filming began, the directors wrote Priscilla a long email preparing her for what was ahead. Among the many notes was a warning. They wanted to make her aware of Satan’s desire for targeting the people who’d been involved in their previous films and how he’s taken aim at the areas of their personal lives that were connected to the message of that movie. The directors encouraged Priscilla to be vigilant about praying for her own family and praying against any assignments of the enemy. She was thankful for their warning. When summer arrived Priscilla and her family moved to another state to begin a couple of months of filming. At first, the family enjoyed their new surroundings not really thinking about the unique set of stressors placed on them – being away from home, out of their element, out of their usual rhythms. After the first couple of months of filming the slightest things began to set off a disagreement or a misunderstanding. “By the time we made it through our final wrap on the film set, we were exhausted, not just physically but relationally,” shares Priscilla. Just as she had been forewarned by the directors the enemy was trying hard to dismantle the relationships of people in the film. Together, she and Jerry asked God to make their marriage and family bulletproof against the enemy’s attacks.

A SPECIAL CALLING

Many years ago Priscilla attended a Bible study. She had expressed a desire to some close friends about a new hunger she had been feeling to go deeper with God – to experience Him more fully. When she arrived at the Bible study Priscilla discovered these people were committed – fervently – to prayer. At the end of the meeting a man whom she had never met before looked in her direction and spoke directly to her. He sensed she would have the privilege of calling many people to prayer during her lifetime. And not just to prayer but to a refreshed, renewed focus and fervency of prayer they’d never known before. Over the past decade Priscilla has had the privilege of encouraging many women in their prayer lives. She started at her home church in Dallas and then at their ministry conferences in different parts of the country. She never dreamed she would write a book about it someday.

OUR SECRET WEAPON

Through intentional, deliberate, strategic prayer, Priscilla says, “you grab hold of Jesus and of everything He’s already done on your behalf.” Prayer is a key part of your offensive weaponry against the enemy. “Put on all of God’s
armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. (Eph. 6:11 NLT) In prayer you gain strength – the power to gird yourself with armor that extinguishes every weapon your enemy wields. The enemy will use every strategy he can to put a distaste in your mouth for prayer. “He wants to see you passionless, powerless, and prayerless.”
When you pray, Priscilla offers the following reminders to help keep your prayers strong and anchored:

  • P – Praise: Thanksgiving is one of the most important aspects of prayer. Gratitude for who God is and what He has done should be in every prayer.
  • R – Repentance: Expect prayer to expose where you’re still resisting Him. He gives to those who follow.
  • A – Asking: Make your requests known. Be personal and specific.
  • Y – Yes: The Bible says, “All of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding Yes!” (2 Cor. 1:20 NLT) There is nothing more powerful than praying God’s own Word.

“Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the enemy and to all his ploys against you,” shares Priscilla. She considers the enemy’s top ten strategies aimed at you to be: against your passion, your focus, your identity, your family, your confidence, your calling, your purity, your rest and contentment, your heart, and your relationships. For example, the enemy wants you to suffer from a case of mistaken identity. He doesn’t want you praying because fervent prayer keeps your true identity in focus and reminds us of who we really are.  Fervent prayertaps into the power we really have in Christ. Another strategy of the enemy is against your heart or unforgiveness for past hurts. This is a strategic design by the enemy to cripple your effectiveness in prayer and your  power to stand against him victoriously. Priscilla shares how her prayer life was reinvigorated after learning this truth. After much prayer, Priscilla shares how she brought over a meal one day to a friend who had offended her.  By extending forgiveness and a simple act of kindness to this person, Priscilla thwarted the enemy’s plan: to ruin a friendship and her prayer life. “Make prayer both your lifeline and your lifestyle,” shares Priscilla. Write your prayers down, put them anywhere you are likely to see them, speak them and let your heart be transformed.

PRISCILLA’S BIO

Priscilla is a wife and a mom first.  Put a Bible in her hand and a message in her heart and you’ll see why thousands flock to her conferences and dive into her Bible study series’ each year. In addition to Priscilla’s participation in many church and para-church conferences across the globe each year, Going Beyond Ministries hosts AWAKEN – an outreach event in their hometown designed to encourage and mobilize women locally. This free gathering brings together thousands of women from different denominations and backgrounds several times a year for an opportunity to not only hear the Word but to live it out in practical ways. The ministry also equips believers with Bible study resources by partnering with LifeWay Christian resources. Priscilla has authored 10 video driven studies from Biblical characters such as Jonah and Gideon. Between studying and writing, she spends most of her time cleaning up after (and trying to satisfy the appetites of) their three growing boys.
