Suzy Cohen: Diabetes Without Drugs

By The 700 Club

TREATING DIABETES NATURALLY
Most doctors and health organizations say there is no cure for diabetes.  People take millions and millions of medicines that will not cure them.  These medications only deal with the symptoms and weaken the body in the process.  Suzy Cohen has found that many effects of the disease can be reversed and the body can restore itself through natural means, such as food and supplements.  Though there have been quite a few books on diabetes, Suzy’s well-researched and well-documented five-step program is the only method that helps people turn on what Suzy calls the “cellular switch,” or anti-aging gene,  in their bodies that will burn fat and sugar and help regulate blood sugar levels.  Her program has received the worldwide distinction where would-be doctors preparing for their board exams are required to read three chapters of her diabetes book.

BEST SWEETENERS
A question Suzy often gets asked is what sweeteners are the best to use.  Though artificial sweeteners are considered safe, she disagrees that any artificial sweetener is good.  Sugar is not the “bad guy” in diabetes that everyone makes it out to be.  Diabetes is really about the body’s response to sugar and its inability to process sugar correctly.  White, refined sugar is heavily processed, much sweeter than natural sugar, and is the kind of chemical that promotes diabetes.  Though there are all those problems associated with white, refined sugar, Suzy would choose that over artificial sweeteners.  Artificial sweeteners add to the free-radical damage associated with diabetes and will actually worsen the body’s condition over time.  Suzy says the best sweeteners are the natural sweeteners, like:

-coconut sugar – evaporated coconut sap; it’s rich in phosphorus, potassium, and other minerals

-muscovado sugar – may also be called moist or Barbados sugar; unrefined sugar straight from the sugar cane that looks like brown crystals; retains many minerals, including magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron

-stevia – best and healthiest alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners; free of calories, carbohydrates, and is 0 on the glycemic index; can help balance blood sugar and improve glucose tolerance in people with high blood sugar as well as help with weight loss, alleviating heartburn, and lowering blood pressure

The worst sweeteners are anything refined, xylitol, high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar, artificial sweeteners (saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, tagatose, and truvia).

ALL SALTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL
Regular iodized table salt is another refined food that can make a difference in your blood sugar levels.  Refined table salt is stripped of the minerals that regulate your blood sugar.  Too much of it can cause high blood pressure and cause water retention for some people.  Natural, unrefined sea salt is an essential nutrient for good health.  It retains healthy minerals that are needed for normal heart, muscle, thyroid, and pancreatic function.  If you have diabetes, getting minerals is critical to your health and well-being.  The best two salts that Suzy recommends are Himalayan salt and French Grey sea salt.
