How One Man is Leaving a Legacy for His Grandchildren and Beyond

CBN.com LIVING LEGACY

Tucker, 77, has been writing memoirs for his 18 grandchildren for several years.  He had always wondered what both of his grandfathers had thought about life.  “If it meant something to me, then that would mean something to my grandchildren,” says Tucker.  Realizing that his grandchildren were growing up in an increasingly godless society, Tucker decided to write down his thoughts on biblical topics, including baptism of the Spirit, healing, forgiveness, etc.  “Hopefully, I can influence their lives for Jesus,” he says.  After some friends read his memoirs, they encouraged him to publish his writings.  In 2012, Tucker took those memoirs and put them in a book for his family.  “There was little offered which explains the biblical way to heaven or the exciting journey enroute,” says Tucker.  His hope is that not only will his grandchildren be influenced by his writings but our nation as well.  “This nation, in order to survive, must experience a spiritual awakening similar to those of the 18th and 19th centuries.  This book is part of my small contribution toward making that happen.”  He says there is nothing greater than becoming a Christian.  “But it’s an incredible journey,” he says.  “How we live the life is important, too.”

MEMORY LANE

Tucker was born in Asheboro, North Carolina.  After graduation from the University of North Carolina, he joined the US Army and then after his service time, he worked with his father as a partner in the Belk department stores, serving in a management capacity with the retail stores and as Vice President and General Manager of Belk Yates Company in Asheboro.  He was active in civic affairs and served on boards of Wachovia Bank and Trust Company and Randolph Hospital.  Tucker left his position at Belk’s to serve as the Executive Vice President of Resource Development at CBN.  He was also a founding chairman for Regent University for 9 years and served on the Board of Trustees of Regent for 15 years.

“I had a unique situation; I met Pat in 1960; my father supported CBN.  Then I was asked to join the Board of Directors in 1972 at CBN and served until 1987,” says Tucker.  Then Pat asked if he would be involved in the ministry.  “That was a lifechanging decision; a spiritual one, not a business one,” says Tucker.  In 1978, he moved his family to Virginia Beach.  After leaving CBN, Tucker returned to North Carolina.
