New Information on Miers

I’ve been doing a little digging and here are a couple nuggets I’ve come up with on Harriet Miers. She filled out a questionnaire in 1991 and listed some qualities about herself. Her favorite movie is “The Sound of Music”. Now clearly that is controversial because… just kidding. Also in the questionnaire she says that behind her back people say that “They can’t figure me out”. Yikes! That may not bode well to Senator Brownback and other social conservatives.

As you know, there are conservatives that are skeptical about Miers because she has no judicial track record.

This from the Dallas Morning News from December of 2004:

“ Breaking through the good-ol'-boys network wasn't easy, but by all accounts, she did so with grace. One legal lion once observed that she had gotten ahead in the male-dominated profession precisely because she wasn't a feminist, then he paused to reconsider and mused, 'Maybe she is a feminist, I don't know.' That's not surprising - Ms. Miers is so adept at keeping her personal views to herself that when she ran for City Council in 1989, few knew whether she was a Republican or a Democrat, liberal or conservative.”

And then there’s this one, also from the Dallas Morning News from November of 2004:

“On the second anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, Ms. Miers did a Bible reading for a service attended by the Bushes. The other readers: Secretary of State Colin Powell and FBI Director Robert Mueller.”

Who knows what to make of all of this? Obviously conservatives are confused but maybe that’s the point here. They don’t want to be confused. They wanted this to be a slam dunk with a candidate that has a proven track guard. Now it’s turned into a guessing game. Is she the evangelical, born again pro-life Christian who would move the court to the right or is she the woman who has a track record on corporate law only, recommended by Harry Reid and even her friends admit it’s hard to know her political views? Buckle your seat belts. This is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
