Harry Reid Goes Nuts
On Friday morning, I sat down one on one with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. This is the third time I’ve sat down with him. The first time was at his home in Searchlight, Nevada. I must say, let’s take politics out of the equation for a moment. He is a really nice guy. The headline of this blog says Harry Reid goes nuts. Well, it’s not that he went nuts as in loco crazy. Actually, after the interview he invited me and the crew in to his office for nuts and candy. The snacks were delicious. Now, as for the interview, I’m doing an exclusive story for CBN that will air this coming Monday. Here are some highlights:
On his Meeting with Judge Alito: We had a very nice visit. He's a very nice man. Very smart. But I told him, Judge I wish you were a woman, and I wish you didn't have the background you have, a graduate of Yale.
On a potential Alito Filibuster: I think it's way too early to talk about what's going to happen with Judge Alito. Let's wait before the evidence is in before people start determining what they are going to do with the vote.
On Karl Rove:
Brody: You want Karl Rove to resign?
Reid: Yea. I think it would be so good for this President. I think it would be so good for the country. That's why more than 60 percent of the American people feel he should resign."
On why he decided to shut down the Senate this week for a couple hours: I did it because I thought it was the best thing for the American people. I support the troops in Iraq, I voted for the war in Iraq, but I believe the information that was given to me prior to my vote was manipulated. It was wrong. It's clear there were no weapons of mass destruction, it's clear there was no al-Qaeda connection, it's clear there were no terrorists in Iraq, and on and on, and the American people deserve these answers.
On his relationship with Bill Frist after Frist said this week that he can’t trust Reid anymore:
Brody: In the heat of the moment, some things were said. He at one point said he couldn't trust you for the next year and a half.
Reid: Well, that's certainly up to him. I trust him. Whether he likes me or not, he has to work with me. That's just the way it is.
On Senator Pat Roberts who said Senator Reid’s “shutdown the senate speech” made him look like “Howard Dean without a rabies shot:" Well, that's very common for Pat Roberts to name call. We try not to do that in the Senate, and Pat Roberts is a person that has neglected his duties, and I've said in the past he's neglected them because of anything dealing with intelligence in this country his orders have to come from the vice president. He didn't get those orders, so he couldn't do that.
