Slanted Reporting on the Economy?

CBNNews.com - Dan Gainor, director of the Business and Media Institute, keeps an eye on how the media report on the economy. According to him, news reports have been down playing the positive, leading to a false view of leadership in the U.S.
"Last year they were telling us almost every week on average about either recession or depression on the three major networks,” he said. “A couple of the reports even brought out clips from the Great Depression."
Continuing coverage like this seemed to contradict current reports.
Figures released Friday showed the risk of inflation was decreasing.
Unemployment had also been recorded at a low 4.6 percent, with 7.4 million jobs being created during the Bush administration.
Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke told congress the economy was moving in the right direction.
Yet nearly 60 percent of Americans said they disapproved of the president’s handling of the economy.
"The American media have been telling [us] for years that we have an economy that's on the edge of collapse," Gainor said. He added that he felt this negative reporting helped drive Bush’s approval rating down.
Gainor also claimed positive reporting has been slanted toward Democrats for years.
A study by Gainor's institute showed 85 percent of the reporting on the Clinton economy was positive, while 77 percent of the stories on the Bush economy were negative.
Some good news has managed to reach headlines, however, such as new record highs in the stock market.
