Brownback campaign: Our guy is the "leading conservative choice in the Republican primary."
February 17, 2007

The Brownback for President campaign believes they're about to take off. The Brody File has in its posession a copy of what the campaign is sending out to their supporters.
Here's part of it below:
January 15th though February 15th will go down as a critical period in Senator Brownback’s presidential campaign. During this period, Senator Brownback not only had a very successful kickoff to his presidential campaign, but he has managed to cement his status as the leading conservative choice in the Republican primary.
Recent momentum has been well acknowledged by political commentators, as the news site Political Buzz stated: “Look for Brownback ’08 to take off in the coming weeks,” The Boston Herald stated, “Sam Brownback of Kansas can make waves,” and The Shreveport Times concluded: “Perhaps the most conservative candidate upper tier candidate Sam Brownback of Kansas has the best chance of rallying the base.”
Senator Brownback received an overwhelming response at the March for Life on January 22nd, and The Washington Post reported: ““Brownback has the power to alter the GOP presidential nomination… not one of the potential hopefuls who outpoll him can match his social conservative bona fides.”
Senator Brownback will continue his to bring his focused and principled conservative message to Republicans across the nation. Please keep in touch with your ideas and direction, as we appreciate all the support you have offered our campaign. Look for another update from our campaign in the near future.
The line of interest here is how Brownback is the "leading conservative choice in the Republican primary." Let's back up. Mitt Romney would disagree. He says he's the leading conservative choice. He leads Brownback in the polls. Clearly, Brownback is laying down a marker and getting set to challenge Romney's conservative credentials. Romney may be leading Brownback in the polls but his campaign is determined to point out that Romney does not lead Brownback when it comes to the fight for conservatives causes. Throw in Baptist preacher and Presidential nominee Mike Huckabee and they may try and sandwich Romney by painting him as an insincere social conservative. The result may be that one of them emerges as the number 3 to McCain and Giuliani instead of Romney.
Still, Brownback needs to show that he can raise money. He's not going to raise as much as Romney has. I just don't see it but he has to do relatively well to be taken seriously by the mainstream media. If that happens, then Romney has a battle on his hands. In the meantime, my sense here is that the Brownback campaign will continue to get bolder as time moves on. At some point, whether it be through a debate or a press release, Brownback or Huckabee is going to really come out firing. At that point, everybody stand out of the way and watch. I'll blog.
A caring friend will be there to pray with you in your time of need.
