Romney first with campaign ad
February 20, 2007
Ever since this race for the Presidency began, Mitt Romney has been out in front. He may not be number one in the polls, but he's first in the media blitz and now he's first with a campaign ad. If you click above, you can watch a portion of it.
The ad is not flashy and I believe that is intended. People need to get to know Mitt Romney. People know Rudy Giuliani. People know John McCain. This ad comes across as meat and potatoes with a lot of references to how business savy and capable Romney is as a CEO. This will be a major theme with the clear message of "Hey, I know how to get things done and run major organizations, so watch me when I get in the White House." The team also hit element after element including a topic that reasonates with social conservatives: judges. Romney has an opportunity to capitalize in this area because the judges issue is a forward looking topic. Romney doesn't have to be saddled by the past here. He has no record of appointing Federal Appeals Court judges or Supreme Court Judges. So if he keeps talking about Alito and Roberts, he does himself a favor.
One other interesting note here: Ann Romney appears quite a bit. You see her at the beginning and at the end. We here in TV know that you want to leave the viewer with a lasting image so showing his wife in the ad helps Romney in the family values area. Ann Romney could be a "Laura Bush" type, someone who helps Romney throughout the campaign. This ad puts Romney off to a good start. What do you think? Email me directly
