VA Governor to Sign Cervical Cancer Bill

CBNNews.com - Virginia governor Tim Kaine wants to sign legislation requiring sixth-grade girls to get the cervical cancer vaccine.
If the measure passes, Virginia would be the second state to mandate the vaccine for HPV, the human papilloma virus.
The only vaccine on the market, Gardasil, was approved by the federal government in June.
The government suggested that it be given to females before they become sexually active.
In Texas, lawmakers may override the governor's executive order requiring the vaccine for girls.
Opponents there say the order is too restrictive for parents wanting to opt out.
The Virginia governor says his bill strikes the right balance for parents without making them jump through hoops.
It requires parents to review the literature before opting out.
