CBNNews.com - GAZA STRIP - Monday morning, a spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees promised a "surprise" to mark the one-year anniversary of the kidnapping of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Corporal Gilad Shalit.

The terror group is one of three Hamas-affiliated groups that took part in the June 25, 2006 cross-border attack on an IDF outpost near the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Gaza Strip.

Two IDF soldiers were killed, three wounded and the injured Shalit abducted in the attack.

Monday afternoon, his captors posted an audiotape on an Islamic Web site, which his father, Noam, identified as his son's voice, but not his words.

"I am Gilad, the son of Noam Shalit.

"Mom and Dad, brother and sister, and my friends in the IDF, I send my love and miss all of you dearly. It has been a year since I was captured, and my health is deteriorating. I am in need of a long hospital stay.

"I am sorry for the Israeli government and IDF's lack of interest in me and their rejection of the demands of [Hamas'] Izz el-Din al-Kassam. It is clear they must accept their demands if they want me to be released from prison, especially since I was part of a military operation under military orders and not a drug dealer.

"And just as I have a mother and father, the Palestinians also have mothers and fathers, and their children must be returned to them. I have great confidence that my government will focus on my situation and accept the demands of my captors."

In exchange for Shalit, his captors are demanding the release of more than 1,400 Palestinian prisoners, serving time for planning and carrying out terror attacks in Israel.
