CBNNews.com - GAZA STRIP - Some Palestinian parents living in the Gaza Strip, unhappy with Hamas summer camps, aren't sending their children to camp.
Hamas summer camps teach children how to fire automatic rifles, use hand grenades and other military apparatus, reports Jerusalem Post journalist Khaled Abu Toameh.
Gaza Strip residents said Hamas advertises its summer camp programs in mosques, promoting that camps teach children about Islam.
"The Hamas supervisors are also giving lectures to the children accusing Fatah of collaborating with Israel and betraying the Palestinians," one eyewitness told Toameh.
"They are also quoting phrases from the Koran that encourage the children to kill the 'traitors,'" he said.
According to the Fatah-affiliated Palestine Press Agency, the camps are conducted in secluded areas throughout the Gaza Strip, which the children's families have little access to.
"The military training is taking place in the early hours," one Gaza resident told Toameh. "Children are being taught how to use Kalashnikov assault rifles and other weapons," he said.
Toameh points out that Fatah has held its own summer camp programs with weapons training and anti-Israel and anti-U.S. indoctrination, which colors a recent statement released by Fatah.
"Hamas is helping create a culture of hatred and vengeance. They are killing the innocence of children by forcing them to undergo military weapons training and teaching them hatred. They want to use these children to fight their own people in the future," the statement read.
