Why Mitt Romney May Satisfy Social Conservatives

Mitt Romney has taken a lot of hits. From flip-flops to his Mormonism, to the latest story about how some social conservative groups think he should have done more to stop pornographic hotel movie offerings during his time on the Marriott Hotel board.
But you know what, at the end of the day, it may not matter.
Why? Because let's do a quick check of the other candidates. Is there one top-tier candidate that is consistently and pro-actively talking about the culture war in this country? Go down the list. Not one of them is doing it. Sure, they make mention of an issue or two once in a while, but there really hasn't been a concerted effort to come up with any speech that tackles the moral issues that conservative Christians care about. Mitt Romney has done that. Watch what is being called his "Frontiers of Freedom" speech. Click here. It's pretty powerful.
I know Mitt Romney has his critics and they've taken their shots. I'm sure there are more to come. But you can also make the case that he's the most "pro-family" candidate out there. He even has the "perfect family" thing going. I feel like every time I see them I start to whistle the "Leave it to Beaver" theme song. Does Romney have warts? Sure. Do the other candidates? You bet.
In the final analysis though, it's been my view that people vote for a candidate not just on policy but on likeability. On niceness. It's the "Can I deal with this guy in my living room for four years" factor. Mitt Romney's "Leave it to Beaver" number is pretty high. The culture war speeches help.
