CBNNews.com - NABLUS, West Bank - Despite efforts by Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah-allied security forces, Hamas continues to strengthen its presence in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria).
Al-Din al-Kassam Brigades (Izzadin Kassam), the armed wing of Hamas, has become "very active" in the West Bank, a PA security official told The Jerusalem Post.
Meanwhile, rumors abound that Jibril Rajoub, a close associate of the PA chairman, is holding secret meetings with Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal and Egyptian officials in Cairo on ways to restore the partnership between Fatah and Hamas.
The Ramallah-based official said Hamas is working in tandem with Fatah terror cells, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Islamic Jihad, Fatah's armed wing.
"We are very worried about what is happening in the West Bank, especially in Nablus, where Izzadin Kassam appears to have resumed its activities after a long lull," the official told The Jerusalem Post.
"In recent weeks the group has been launching almost daily attacks on Israeli military patrols…particularly in the northern West Bank," the official said.
"Some of the Hamas men have been receiving assistance from Fatah gunmen and this is very worrying," he said.
