CBNNews.com - GAZA STRIP - On Tuesday, kidnapped Israeli Corporal Gilad Shalit will turn 21. It is the second birthday he will spend in the hands of his Hamas captors.
On June 25, the anniversary of his abduction, Hamas released an audiotape of Shalit.
"When we released the voice recording of Shalit, we expected something from Israel in return, namely the release of women and children from Israeli jails," Ahmed Yusef, advisor to Gaza-based Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, told Israel Radio Monday.
"If Israel would have done this, we would have published a videotape of Shalit talking about himself," Yusef said. "Unfortunately, this never happened."
Yusef stipulated that only if Israel accepts their offer will Hamas consider a "new initiative" -- a videotape of the prisoner.
"Hamas will only take this initiative if Israel releases those prisoners," Yusef said. "The video released by Hamas will include information on the condition of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit," he said.
Yusef said Hamas has provided Israel with the names of the prisoners and a timetable for their release.
