[PM Update: Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has told CBS' 60 Minutes he won't try to visit World Trade Center site; is reportedly "amazed" and skeptical that Americans would be insulted by his laying a wreath at the site.]
A
New York TV station was reporting this morning that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit ground zero at the World Trade Center site next Monday anyway, after his official request to the NYPD was turned down. City officials had said he would not be allowed to visit the site and turn it into a “photo-op.” It’s not clear whether the Iranian president will be able to get near the site without permission. He’ll already be in New York for the UN General Assembly.
Ahmadinejad, who has suggested 9/11 was an inside job, has also called the holocaust a “fairy tale”, and has called for the destruction of Israel and the United States. He supports terrorism and is responsible for the deaths of many innocent people.
Yet he wishes, according to a spokesman, “to lay a wreath at the site of ground zero in order to pay tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.”
Since Ahmadinejad thinks 9/11 was an inside job, one can only assume that the Iranian president wants to commemorate the victims of the U.S. government.
Some Ahmadinejad quotes…
"Could [9/11] be planned and executed without coordination with intelligence and security services - or their extensive infiltration? Why have the various aspects of the attacks been kept secret? And, why aren't those responsible and the guilty parties identified and put on trial?"
“How come insulting the prophet of Muslims worldwide is justified…but investigating the fairy tale Holocaust is not?"
"Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury."
"Israel is a rotten, dried tree that will be annihilated in one storm."
"Israel is destined for destruction and it will disappear soon."
"Today, it is the United States, Britain and the Zionist regime which are doomed to disappear…It is a divine promise."
