Top Pro Lifers: Keep Giuliani out at All Costs

CBNNews.com - In an aggressive move against Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, the founder of Operation Rescue is urging voters to keep the former New York City mayor out of office, even it it comes at the expense of putting a Democrat in the White House.

"As horrifying as it seems, Hillary Clinton would be a better president for the pro-life movement than Rudy Giuliani," said Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry. "Therefore, our mission is simple; deny Giuliani the Republican nomination. Failing that, we must deny him the White House at all costs - even if it means Hillary becomes president."

Giuliani's Abortion Future
Terry, who is visiting college campuses, pro-life groups and churches on a 20-state tour to gain the support of pro-life Republicans, believes that Giuliani would undermine all that pro-lifers have worked so hard to accomplish through the Republican Party.

"Rudy is the GOP's crazy aunt. Every family has a crazy aunt in the basement," continued Terry. "So what do you do with her? Don't give her the family checkbook; don't give her the keys to the car; and by all means, keep her in the basement."

Terry stresses that Giuliani would pose the greatest obstacle for the U.S. to make child-killing illegal once again.

"Giuliani would appoint judges who will uphold Roe vs. Wade; he has stated he would allow federal funds -- taxpayer dollars -- to be used to pay for the death of unborn children; he would make pro-abortion appointments in positions of great power; all of this would result in setting the pro-life movement back 20 years and severely undermining our goal of restoring the protection of law to unborn babies," Terry declared.

But if Giuliani is pro-choice and Democrats are pro-choice, then why is Operation Rescue's Terry so vehemently opposed to the former mayor's White House bid?

"As president, Giuliani would be the de-facto head of the GOP; he would systematically destroy the political power of the pro-life movement within the GOP; he would pressure the party to take the pro-life plank out of the party platform; he would declare the 'abortion issue' is divisive and should not be part of federal races; he would make the GOP the mirror image of the DNC regarding child-killing, thus ensuring that there is no pro-life party," Terry stated.

Giuliani's anti-life stance raises another red flag for Terry - one that he believes Republicans should keep in mind.

"An enemy outside your camp makes you vigilant; an enemy in your tent makes you dead," said Terry. "Hillary would unite us, and she could be defeated in four years; Giuliani would destroy the cohesion of the right wing."

Terry concluded by making an analogous argument.

"Could we vote for a man who is right on every single issue, except that he was a racist? Or was a candidate who supported slavery?" Terry posed. "Of course he would never own his own slave, but he would defend any other white persons right to own his own Negro. How then can we in good conscience vote for a man who supports the destruction of innocent human life, which is far worse than slavery or racism?"

Dobson in the Same Corner

Focus on the Family Founder Dr. James Dobson is of the same mind when it comes to Giuliani's run for president.

"I cannot, and will not, vote for Rudy Giuliani in 2008," said Dobson. "It is an irrevocable decision."

After Giuliani publicly stated that he advocates a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy, even though he hates abortion, Dobson could not keep quiet.

"Can we really trust a chief executive who waffles and feigns support for policies that run contrary to his alleged beliefs?" Dobson asked. "Will we learn after it is too late just what the former mayor really thinks? What we know about him already is troubling enough."

But what if Giuliani represents the Republican Party come next November?

"If given a 'Dobson's choice' between him and Senators Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, I will either cast my ballot for an also-ran - or if worse comes to worse - not vote in a presidential election for the first time in my adult life," Dobson stated. "My conscience and my moral convictions will allow me to do nothing else."

Many Christians hold to the United States Constitution's declaration that the president's primary role is to protect the country's citizens.

Pro-life believers, who do not discount unborn children as anything less than 100-percent human, contend that a president is negligent in his or her duties if no protection is provided for the nation's most innocent and vulnerable citizens - babies living in their mothers' wombs.
