Before a crowd of about 700 people in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Tuesday night, Barack Obama kicked off his five-day "Change We Can Believe in Tour."
During his speech, Obama spoke about social reforms and taking the country in a new direction.
"America is sick and tired of George W. Bush, and they are ready for a change," Obama said. "They're tired of Scooter 'Libby' justice… Carl Rove politics… They are tired of the lack of progress on critical issues like health care, education and energy. And most of all they are tired of a war that never should have been authorized."
It was comments like these that had the audience cheering and standing on their feet at times.
Obama peppered his speech with funny antidotes about what the White House would look like with him in it.
"I am reminded by my wife that I am not a perfect man," he said. "I will not be a perfect president, but I will always tell you where we stand."
He continued by saying "You won't hear me flipping and flopping… I'm going to tell you what you need to hear."
At the rally, Obama talked about unifying the country.
"I believe I can bring this country together in a way that Sen. Clinton cannot do, in fact no other candidate can do," Obama said. "I don't carry baggage of the 1990s. I am not interested in fighting the fights of the past."
He also focused on campaign finance reform.
"I've got a track record of fighting to reduce the influence of lobbyists," he said. "I've got a track record of standing up even when it's not easy…"
Wednesday, Obama plans to make a major policy speech that will focus on working families and the American Dream.
His swing through the Hawkeye State ends Saturday night in Des Moines at the Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner.
