CBNNews.com - A new poll shows that with the criminal investigations swirling around Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, a majority of Israelis want him to be relieved of his duties.
More than 55 percent of those who responded said the Knesset should remove Olmert from office because of the criminal probes. More than 1,000 Israeli citizens were polled
Respondents were mostly divided along political lines, with Likud Party supporters overwhelmingly in favor, and Kadima and Labor supporters against.
But most agreed that Olmert's motivation for seeking an agreement with the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas was to alleviate his worries about his personal and political future.
Some 61 percent also said they opposed the removal Israeli soldiers from the West Bank and giving control of the territory to the Palestinians.
If Israel did withdraw, many of its citizens believe the area would be used as a site for launching rocket attacks and as a staging area for Hamas to coordinate terror attacks.
The poll was conducted by Ma'agar Mohot and was sponsored by the Israel Policy Center for Promoting Parliamentary Democracy and Jewish Values in Israeli Public Life.
