John Edwards Responds to Critics on The Brody File

Monday in Nashua, New Hampshire I sat down with presidential candidate John Edwards. We met in a tiny little room right next to where he was about to do a town hall meeting. Video of the interview will be available later today. The full piece for television will air the week of December 3.
John Edwards has been blasted for being insincere and hollow. He's also come under criticism for his excess wealth even though he rails against poverty. He addresses it with me. Read below:dwards: The only person that could ever say that can't do a single think about it because I don't need to be president of the United States. This is not something I spent my life preparing to do. I spent most of my life fighting for the kind of people I grew up with in mill towns across the South, people left behind, who don't have a voice, who no one speaks for, who aren't in position of power, money and influence.
My whole life is about giving them and most Americans who are just like them a real chance. A real chance to be responsible, to raise their family, to build a better life for our children -- which I think is a huge test for our generation. It's a moral test in my judgment.
My whole life has been about the same thing. I was born into nothing. I worked hard, I make no apologizes for having been successful. No body gave it to me. I worked my rear end off, and I fought for it like a lot of Americans. I'm not different than a lot of Americans who have done the same thing.
But I'm proud of what I've been able to do with my life, and I'm proud of being able to give my children a better life than I've had. But, they're going to have to go out and do this for themselves. I can't take care of them for the rest of their lives. And so I think the bottom line is, I think if you listen to what I talk about - giving opportunity, fighting for regular people, fighting against power, money, interests. It all is completely consistent with what my life has been about.
