CBNNews.com - Saudi Arabia says it is reviewing the case of a female gang rape victim who was sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in jail.
The court claimed the woman deserved punishment because she was an "adulteress."
The Saudi court's sentence has brought international condemnation.
The 19-year-old victim was held at knife-point and repeatedly attacked by seven men after it was discovered that she was in the company of a man in a car who was not related to her. That situation is a direct violation of Saudi law.
The White House expressed its disappointment with the woman's sentence.
"This situation is very discouraging and outrageous," said White House press secretary Dana Perino. "It is certainly not consistent with the judicial reforms that the Saudis said they would undertake."
The young woman told ABC News "Everyone looks at me as if I'm wrong. I wanted to die," she said. "I have tried to commit suicide twice."
Her seven attackers received sentences from two to nine years in prison.
