Joe Biden to Brody File: "My problem with Hillary is she's not decisive enough."
November 28, 2007
In a one on one interview with The Brody File, presidential candidate Joe Biden says Hillary Clinton is not straightforward and decisive enough. You can watch his full comments above. The transcription is below:
Brody: You mentioned that she's personally not divisive, but is there something to be said about, from a policy perspective, or quite frankly some other way, the baggage of the 90s as Obama says. Is there some divisiveness there?
Biden: The answer is yes. But look, there are so many people - a distinct minority - but so many activist people on the far right, that just, I think for unfounded reasons just have this thing about the Clintons that you know they're going to be mobilized in the extreme - just like there are so many people if George Bush were running again for President , there's so many people on the left that not only disagree with him, but just really don't like him. And so, that's what happens I think maybe to all presidents and presidential families because they have to make tough decisions. But anybody who thinks that with Senator Clinton as a nominee there's not going to be a fairly divisive campaign - you know what they're going to do - they're going to try to make the campaign about Clinton, not Bush's legacy. And that's what I mean by it's not her fault because she's a, but I shouldn't be making the case for other people, but she's a fairly centrist person, my problem with Hillary is she's not decisive enough. My problem with her is she's not straight forward enough in saying this is what I'll do.
Joe Biden sat down with me Tuesday in Allison, Iowa after a town hall meeting at the county library. I must say that while his comments above come across as a shot against Hillary, he also had some very complimentary things to say about her. They are friends and he's been reluctant to mention her by name and paint her a certain way.
Biden has been around a long time. He calls himself the most qualified candidate in the presidential race. He has the credentials to prove it but if he wants to make a serious move in Iowa, he must be able to make the case that it is he, not Hillary Clinton, who has the experience to lead. One of the more effective ways to do that is to make a direct contrast between the two. He's now doing that on the campaign trail and in the process has raised the stakes to a new level.
