CBNNews.com - Public Security Minister Avi Dichter called the timetable for a achieving a final status agreement unrealistic.
"The first stage is the [U.S.-backed] Road Map [for peace plan], and the Palestinians failed to implement the timetable over the past two years," Dichter told a group of border guards at an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reception.
"The timetable wasn't realistic to begin with, and it's still not realistic today, though it does steer us in the right direction," he said, adding that by the end of 2008, Israel will know better "how they can perform."
The Road Map allowed two years for the Palestinian Authority to root out the terrorist infrastructure in areas under its jurisdiction in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and the Gaza Strip.
