Envoy Slams Israeli Resolution

CBNNews.com - Palestinian Authority U.N. envoy Riyad Mansour did not share Israel's euphoria Tuesday when the General Assembly passed an Israeli-sponsored agricultural resolution.

The resolution calls on member nations to share their agricultural innovations and expertise with developing countries, which Israel has been doing for years.

From Mansour's perspective, Israel's refusal to allow the resolution to be presented by the chair as a consensus resolution was a ploy "to score political points."

According the PA envoy, Israel's efforts to convince member nations to adopt its views only served to underscore "the divisions between Israel and the Arab countries," which, he said, compared unfavorably with the "spirit" at last month's meeting in Annapolis.

Because the resolution passed by a wide margin (118 in favor and 29 abstentions), it will be brought before the full assembly next week.

Every Arab state represented at Wednesday's assembly abstained (a total of 19), while Afghanistan and Pakistan, both predominately Muslim countries, voted in favor.
