Fayyad Tries to Protect the P.A.

CBNNews.com - On Tuesday evening, a report by the Shin Bet (General Security Agency) confirmed that Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and other senior PA officials tried to hide the facts about Friday's terror attack on Israeli hikers.

Off-duty Israeli soldiers Pvt. Ahikam Amihi, 20, and Sgt. David Rubin, 21, were murdered Friday while hiking with a friend south of the PA-controlled city of Hebron.

"These statements were issued in an apparent attempt by the PA to evade responsibility in light of the fact that the attack was carried out by members of Fatah and the [Palestinian] Authority's security services," a Shin Bet official said.

Shortly after perpetrating the attack, Ali Dandis, 24, and Amar Taha, 26, turned themselves in to PA security forces seeking "protective custody."

P.A. Police Confess to Drive-by Shooting

They were not arrested, as the PA prime minister said in remarks at a conference in Herzliya Saturday night. They are, in fact, both on the PA payroll and members of the Fatah security apparatus.

Both men are residents of the PA-controlled city of Hebron. Dandis works in the city's Sharia [Islamic law] courts and has ties with Palestinian General Intelligence and Taha is a fulltime member of the PA's National Security Forces.

Only after Israel pressed the matter did PA government officials finally fess up, turning over the murder weapons and the rifles taken from the off-duty soldiers the day after the attack.

Last month, another Israeli citizen, Ido Zoldan, was murdered while driving his car by members of the PA's security forces.

The Palestinian Authority would prefer to keep under wraps the fact that its security forces -- policemen trained and armed by the U.S. -- have not abandoned their commitment to carry out terror attacks against Israelis.

Shin Bet said the premeditated attack was meant to kill the hikers and steal their weapons.

Member of Knesset (MK) Gideon Sa'ar said these incidents are a direct result of the Olmert government's policies.

"Continuation of unilateral concessions, including the release of terrorists and supplying weapons to the Palestinian Authority provides direct assistance to terror," he said.
