CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - While Jerusalem's King David Hotel is readying itself for a house full of American diplomats and their entourage, many Jerusalem merchants will lose business during President Bush's two-and-a-half day visit.

Some Jerusalemites bemoaned seeing the municipality kick into high gear for Bush's first visit as president.

"It's the weirdest thing," Elisha, an employee of an art gallery near the King David told The Jerusalem Post.

"We've been paying municipal taxes for a long time," he said, "but only now do they remember to clean the street. I wonder why?"

It's been difficult to track down information about the visit.

With just a few days left, merchants on King David Street are clueless about what to expect.

"We called the operation room at the King David Hotel and asked them for details, but they told us to call the police and find out," realtor Yizhak Offner told the Post.

"It's really inconvenient," said another local business owner. "If we won't be able to work they should let us know so we can find solutions or just take a few days off," he said.

Several galleries in the area have opted to remain open, hoping that some of the visitors will have time for sightseeing and shopping.

On Sunday, staffers at King David gave the local and foreign media a tour of the hotel, though they weren't allowed to look inside Suite 622, where the president will be staying.

Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Municipality converted its top floor to a press center and are expecting upwards of 100 foreign journalists to use the facility.
