The Dentist Turned Terrorist

January 8, 2008

Strike another blow to the "Muslim terrorists would stop killing us if they only had the chance for a better life..." argument in the war on terror. British dental assistant Sohail Qureshi has been sentenced to 4 and half years in prison for preparing to engage in terrorism. Although he was working as a dental assistant, Querishi is reported to be a dentist. That suggests he had a doctorate.

Qureshi was caught trying to fly out of Heathrow Airport in 2006 for Peshawar, Pakistan with a night vision scope, medical supplies and other goodies in his bag, including ₤9,000. Querishi lived in Forest Gate, east London, and was apparently doing well enough to have sent several cash payments over the years to jihadists along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

He wrote in an email to a contact before his mission: "Pray that I kill many - revenge, revenge, revenge."

The London Daily Mail writes, "When he was arrested, he was carrying a U.S. Marine and Canadian forces manual, a chapter from an autobiographical book he had written called My Father the Bombmaker, a copy of the Poisoner's Handbook, a picture of him holding an M16 and "motivational Islamist material" stored on a CD."

Several muslim doctors were arrested in a British bomb plot last July. And of course, Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's number two man, is a doctor.
