A 37-year-old man is alive -- three weeks after falling nearly 500 feet from scaffolding on a Manhattan building, and slamming into the terrace below.

Alcides Moreno, a father of three, has endured nine operations already. His wife credits doctors and divine intervention for his recovery.

"He suffered blood clots on the brain, bone fractures, collapsed lungs, and extensive damage to many organs. He keeps (saying) that it just wasn't his time," she said. "God knows when his time is and it just wasn't his time."

Doctors say surviving the impact of a 47-story fall is unprecedented.

"When one considers academic studies of people who fall from height, the 50 percent mortality rate occurs at fall of about three stories," explained one physician.

Moreno's 30-year old brother died in the accident..

Moreno's family is suing the building's owner and companies who rigged the scaffolding. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
