CBNNews.com - In a joint pre-dawn operation, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops and the Shin Bet killed Islamic Jihad's top commander in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).
Walid Obeidi has been on Israel's most wanted list for years for his role in countless terrorist attacks, including the April 2006 suicide bombing at a Tel Aviv shwarma stand that killed 12 Israelis.
The 45-year-old father of three assumed command of the al-Quds Brigades after two of its top leaders, Louay Saadi of Tulkarem and Hussein Jaradat of Jenin, were killed.
Obeidi trained, armed and dispatched dozens of suicide bombers during the second intifada from 2000 to 2004.
A resident of the village of Burkin, Obeidi was hiding in a house in Kabatiya, south of Jenin.
After the Special Forces unit surrounded the house, a fire fight broke out. Obeidi came out firing at the troops, who returned fire, killing him.
Ibrahim Abu Rob, another Islamic Jihad member wanted by Israel, was also arrested. Two terrorists wounded during the gun battle were taken to Haemek Hospital in Afula.
