The number of abortions in the United States has dropped to its lowest level in 30 years.

The Guttmacher Institute, which tracks the number of abortions, reports there were 1.2 million in 2005. That's reflective of the downward trend in recent years.

There has been a nine percent drop in abortions since 2000.

Analysts speculate that the wider availability of the morning-after pill has played a role in the decline, but they also say values are changing.

They say more American couples are going forward with unwanted pregnancies and more women are having children out of wedlock.
