CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of General Staff Lt.-General (ret.) Moshe Ya'alon said a look back at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict shows there are no short-term solutions.

According to Ya'alon, the concept of a two-state solution that began with the 1993 Oslo Accords needs a complete overhaul.

The former chief of staff laid out the issues that must be addressed before the establishment of a Palestinian state -- issues that take time to resolve.

Israel Toasts an Uneasy New Year

Fundamental reforms in the Palestinian Authority's (PA) educational system, economy, security, law and order, and government infrastructure must be in place before a state is established.

Ya'alon, who now serves as a senior fellow at the Shalem Center's Adelson Institute for Strategic Studies, said the Arab world's refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist as a sovereign Jewish state colors all other issues.

He reiterated his call for revamping the Palestinian educational system so future generations of Arab children celebrate life, not death.
