Reservists' Killers Given 15 Years

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Two Palestinians who pleaded guilty to murdering two off-duty Israeli soldiers last month were given 15-year prison sentences. They were also found guilty of "harming the national interests of the Palestinian people."
After the attack, Palestinian policeman Amar Taha, 26, and Ali Dandis, 24, a clerk in the sharia (Islamic law) court, sought refuge with the Palestinian Authority's (PA) Hebron-based General Intelligence Force to avoid arrest by Israel.
PA officials said the two would serve their sentences in a Hebron jail, knowing that Israelis may not demand extradition of the killers once they've been tried and sentenced by Palestinian Authority courts.
Rabbi Yehuda Amihi, whose 20-year-old son, Pvt. Ahikam Amihi, was one of the victims, called the PA trial a "farce."
"The State of Israel must bring these murderers to justice," Rabbi Amihi said, after learning of the sentencing.
"Prime Minister Ehud Olmert must display some sense of national dignity and reverse this cowardice that allows paid employees of the PA to serve out their terms at Jericho's casino," he said.
Twenty-one year old Sgt. David Rubin was also killed in the attack, as was one of the Palestinian attackers, while a female companion hiking with them that day managed to hide from the assailants and then call for help.
