Gaza Wall Breach Preplanned

CBNNews.com - A source close to the Rafah-based Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) told the Israeli daily Haaretz that Wednesday's destruction of the wall along the Philadelphi corridor had been planned for months.
While this source said the PRC prepared the wall, local residents say Hamas deployed men to saw through the steel rods so the wall would crumble when the 20 land mines planted along a half-mile section were detonated.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak's full closure of the Gaza border crossings last Thursday, in response to increasing rocket and mortar shell attacks on southern Israel, set the stage for yesterday's event.
Years ago, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) built the steel and concrete wall along the Philadelphi Corridor -- the narrow strip of land at the Egyptian border, separating the Gaza Strip from the Sinai.
Palestinian gunmen began detonating the explosives around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning and by 6 a.m., people began walking through the rubble into Egypt, where the market on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border had opened early to greet them.
