Iran Offers to Help Egypt

CBNNews.com - On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry director general for Arab, Middle East and North African affairs Ali Asghar Mohammadi met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo.
Though Egypt and Iran have had no formal ties for nearly 30 years, in the past two months, government officials have begun meeting with increasing frequency.
When the crisis at the Rafah border crossing erupted last week, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad phoned Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to offer his country's support.
On Sunday, Mohammadi also offered "to provide help to the Palestinians," according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki.
Gueit says Iran must remove the mural of Khaled el-Islambouli, who assassinated Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and change the name of the street named after him before relations between the two countries can be normalized.
Egypt executed el-Islambouli, one of the army officers who opened fire on Sadat during a military parade in 1981.
