CBN News Election Coverage

An Apolitical Guide to Politics

In the course of covering the campaign, we want to make it clear that neither CBN nor CBN News supports or opposes any candidate seeking public office.

The Political Scene from Arizona

February 4, 2008

Political producer Robin Mazyck here with a guest blog on The Brody File. This past weekend I unexpectedly ended up in Phoenix, Ariz.. (It's a very long story - trust me.) And while I enjoyed some of the festivities sponsored by the NFL , I couldn't turn it off.

By "it" I mean the whole political thing.

I watched TV hungrily, looking for political ads. As I drove through Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale, I looked frantically for campaign signs.

I must tell you that I was a bit disappointed. I've been here since late Friday night, and I've only managed to catch two Barack Obama TV ads and one Hillary Clinton ad.

As for the radio stations, nothing, nada, zilch. This is a far cry from South Carolina's primary where you couldn't watch a TV show or listen to the radio without hearing those prized words "I'm… and I approve of this message."

Perhaps the highlight for me was Saturday night in Tempe. A man at the "Official Super Bowl Saturday Night Party" had an inflatable Ron Paul blimp attached to his hat. I really tried to take a picture, but he was moving too fast.

I haven't seen one Mitt Romney sign anywhere. Maybe I'm not seeing much election paraphernalia because I'm in McCain country. He's expected to easily win his home state come Super Tuesday.

As for the Democrats, despite the fact that Obama has closed Clinton's lead nationally, most polls show that she has an edge here in Arizona. Both Clinton and her husband have frequented the state in the past two weeks.

At any rate, CBN reporter Paul strand and I will have a front row seat at Sen. McCain's primary party tomorrow night. Look for reports on CBNNews.com.

David is in New York City covering Clinton's campaign. Look for his reports on The 700 Club, Newswatch and of course, right here on The Brody File.
