WEB EXCLUSIVE: Rift Valley Earthquakes

February 5, 2008

Watch Low Band

As if East Africa isn't going through enough right now, Rwanda and Congo were hit with two earthquakes over the weekend.

The quakes killed at least 42...and hundreds have been injured.

Evidently, quakes are common in Africa's western Great Rift Valley.   There is a fault line that straddles Rwanda, DRC, Uganda and Tanzania.  A new report from Churches Together International says the situation in DRC is "beyond the local organisations' capacity to respond and representatives from the national government have pledged some assistance."

I am hoping to post more video in the future.  Click on the story above and you will hear my web exclusive report on damage to churches in the region.  This will become a regular feature on Africa Matters.

Tomorrow, I will post an interview with a pastor from Chad.  He escaped the fighting with his family and 10,000 new refugees yesterday.  They only have the clothes on their backs.
