Hamas: Another Assassination Attempt

CBNNews.com - GAZA STRIP - At a press conference in Gaza City Saturday, Hamas broadcast videotaped confessions of alleged suicide bombers who planned to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh.
Two of the would-be bombers, Nafez Dabaki and Mohammed Kheil, said they had received instructions from Tayeb Abdel Rahim, a senior aide to Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
On the video, Dabaki said he'd been asked three times and offered $70,500 to martyr himself up at a mosque where Haniyeh was praying, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.
Kheil confessed to carrying 55 pounds of explosives in a backpack, which he was supposed to detonate at a public rally, but security guards scared him off.
The PA chairman's office called the allegations fictitious and said Hamas "lost its credibility when it cheated and spilled Palestinian blood and violated all national and moral values" in the bloody military coup in June.
"Its lies are not going to convince anyone and instead are another sign that Hamas is not only an outlaw movement, but finds itself outside our morals and traditions," read a statement from the PA chairman's office.
The alleged confessions torpedoed ongoing efforts to reconcile the two rival Palestinian factions.
"How can we talk about dialogue with this group, after we discovered this conspiracy, which received the blessing of senior leaders sitting in the Mukata [Abbas's Fatah headquarters] in Ramallah," said senior Hamas official Said Siam, at the press conference, adding that "at this stage, we cannot show any mercy for those were involved in this conspiracy."
