Something you Don't See Every Day
February 29, 2008
To anyone who thinks the Iraqis don't want our forces in their country: In Balad recently a platoon of U.S. military police spent some time at a mosque providing security. They were there at the request of the Imam of the Balad shrine.
Normally our troops have steered clear of mosques because Iraqis didn't take kindly to non-muslims being in and around them. But that attitude is changing - on the Iraqi side. Not only are our troops being asked to help guard the mosques, the Muslims and Christians are working together to breathe life back into their communities.
The only people who can't seem to feel the love are the cowardly criminals of al Qaeda. They're not smart enough to see that their continued brutality only accelerates the reconciliation of the more peaceful groups, as is being seen in Baghdad's Dora neighborhood.
Another sign of progress - Iraq now has a functioning air force. This video shows the maiden voyage of an Iraqi Air Force C-130 cargo plane as it delivers supplies to Mosul.
Step by step, things in Iraq continue to improve. Remember this when you see the blood-n-guts reporting from the war on the nightly news.
