There was another sign of progress this week in Iraq: 2,000 soldiers who helped launch the troop surge returned home.
The Pentagon said their unit will not be replaced.
Violence has dropped dramatically in Iraq since the start of the surge last January.
The U.S. military currently has an estimated 156,000 troops in Iraq.
The troop draw-down is expected to continue through this year.
