CWN.com - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made a major address about race this week.

He gave the speech after a media report exposed inflammatory comments Obama's former pastor made from the pulpit.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright said God should curse America because of historic injustices suffered by African-Americans in this country.

Sen. Obama has attended Wright's church for 20 years, and he credits wright with helping bring him to the Christian faith.

Obama denounced the reverend's more extreme comments. Bt he also spoke about the way that black Americans relate their experience to the Bible's stories of suffering and deliverance.

"I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories David and Goliath, Moses and pharaoh, Christians in the lions den, Ezekiel's field of dry bones. Those stories of survival and freedom and hope, became our stories.my story," Obama said.

Obama has campaigned on a theme of unity and change.
