Fresh Barrage of Kassams Fired

CBNNews.com - SDEROT, Israel - Gaza-based Palestinians fired a new wave of Kassam rockets on southern Israel Wednesday, with eight landing in the rocket-battered southern Israeli city of Sderot and two south of the coastal city of Ashkelon.
Three Sderot residents were lightly wounded by shrapnel and a fourth treated for shock.
Though Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attacks, Israel blamed Hamas.
"All the talk of a lull in attacks from Gaza is misleading," Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal told Israel Radio.
By 10:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, Palestinians fired 20 rockets into Israel.
Meanwhile mid-morning Wednesday, Palestinian snipers fired on farmers harvesting potatoes at Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha near the Gaza border.
Yochi Kopler was lightly wounded by a ricochet.
"As soon as the attack began, we lay on the ground, and we ran away when it subsided a bit," Kopler said.
"It is a terrible feeling. Sometimes I bring 30 men to the fields with me, and I think to myself that maybe it just isn't worth it, even though it is our livelihood," Kopler said. "We're attacked every time we go to work," he said.
Eshkol Regional Council head Haim Yalin told YNet news that the army should do more to protect farmers.
"Despite the apparent agreements with the Palestinians regarding the Kassam rocket fire, the attacks emanating from Gaza with the use of firearms continue unabated," Yalin said.
"We are not living in Palmach times," he said, referring to pre-state days, when Israelis had to protect themselves against attacks. "We have an army and it must protect the farmers," Yalin said.
In January, a Palestinian sniper killed 20-year-old Carlos Andres Chavez, a volunteer from Ecuador, as he worked in the same fields.
