Fuel Depot Closed Following Attack

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Following Wednesday's terror attack on the Nahal Oz fuel depot, the terminal remained closed Thursday morning and likely will not reopen for several more days.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officials determined that while not halting fuel supplies to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the depot will not reopen until security concerns are reassessed.
Two Beersheba residents, 37-year-old Oleg Lipson and 53-year-old Lev Charniak, who worked at the depot, were killed in the attack.
Around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, four Palestinian terrorists cut through the security fence and made their way to the fuel terminal, where they opened fire, killing two employees before attempting to flee.
IDF soldiers killed two of the terrorists in the terminal, while the others escaped.
An air strike immediately following the attack targeted a car, killing one terrorist involved in the attack and critically wounding another.
Palestinian sources said four people were killed in the air strike, including children.
Three Palestinian terror groups claimed responsibility for the attack: the Popular Resistance Committees, the Fatah-affiliated Mujahideen Brigades, and Islamic Jihad.
Palestinians continued firing rounds of mortar shells on southern Israel for hours following the attack on the fuel depot.
The IDF believes the intent was to kidnap Israelis to be used as bargaining chips along with captured IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit, abducted in June 2006.
"The terrorists most probably wanted to perpetrate a more serious attack, such as a kidnapping or infiltration to a nearby ISRAELI community," said OC Southern Command Major General Yoav Galant.
